[About Tokaido fifty-three]
- Tokaido is a road linking 492 km from Nihonbashi in Tokyo to the Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto, one of five established roads, where the domestic unity was planned by the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo period.
- 53 offices were set up, and we decided to send travelers and goods there.
- Ukiyo-e of Utagawa Hiroshige depicting this street scenery was famous and was frequently taken up as a theme of Waka / Haiku.

[About Otsu Inn]
- Otsu inn is located south of Lake Biwa, the 53rd tohoku road, the last town town.
- It prospered with the largest population and hostel as a gateway to Kyoto. In Otsu, which was a transportation route to Kyoto, many cow carries carrying accumulated items such as rice rice and charcoal bales arrived, distinguishing the roadway through which the cow carries and the sidewalk through which the traveler passes.
- On the left side facing Kyoto, a road through which people and horses pass, and a stone called car stone on the right side were put in order to keep the wheels of the oxtain car out of the muddy.
- The well where Shimizu springs up vigorously is called [runway], moisturizing the throat of a traveler, and still continues to spring without withering.
