- The metropolitan area new urban railway (Tsukuba Express) is a new urban high-speed railway in the northeastern part of the metropolitan area that opened on August 24, 2005.
- It connects Akihabara and Tsukuba (58.3km) in 45 minutes at the fastest, and boasts a maximum speed of 130km/h.
- In addition, the Moriya Station on the way is characterized by the fact that the Akihabara side is DC 1500V and the Tsukuba side is AC 20000V.
-The TX-1000 series is a DC-only car used exclusively for trains between Akihabara and Moriya.
- All 6-car trains made up of 3M3T have long seats to meet commuter demand, and 14 trains have appeared, mainly used for local trains.
-The TX-2000 series is an AC/DC car used for direct trains beyond Moriya, and the background color of each nameplate such as the license plate is summarized in scarlet.
-In the 4M2T 6-car train, semi-cross seats were adopted only in cars 3 and 4 in order to accommodate long-distance commuting, but in recent years, long seats have been adopted.
- Initially, 16 6-car trains will appear, mainly used for rapid and regional rapid trains.
- In 2008, 4 additional 6-car trains were added in response to the increase in passengers.
