[About the actual ship]
- The Tirpitz was a battleship built and commissioned by the German Navy during World War II.
- Commissioned in February 1941 as the second ship of the Bismarck class, which were feared as the world's largest battleships at the time of their commissioning.
- The standard displacement was 42,900 tons, and the main battery was equipped with four 48.5-caliber 38 cm twin guns.
- The Tirpitz operated in Norwegian waters and demonstrated its power by bombarding the island of Spitsbergen in September 1943.
- Later, to avoid British air attacks, the ship was moved to Altafjord in Norway, but its presence continued to pose a major threat to the Allied forces.
