The Jaguar 2, also known as the Raketen Jagdpanzer 4, is an anti-tank missile-equipped self-propelled gun owned and operated by the German Federal Armed Forces.
Between 1983 and 1985, 162 Kannonenjagdpanzers were stripped of their main guns, fitted with BGM-71 TOW launchers on top and additional armour, and given the designation RJPz.4 (Raketenjagdpanzer 4 = Missile-Armed Tank Destroyer Type 4) Jaguar 2.
Equipped with a V8 water-cooled multi-fuel diesel engine and a lightweight common chassis, this vehicle boasted higher survivability than conventional tanks at combat distances due to its low height and high speed.
Differences between the Jaguar 1, which is equipped with HOT anti-tank missiles, include the addition of an infrared night vision guidance system due to changes in the missiles mounted, and the fact that the vehicle is equipped with a missile launcher instead of the tank gun and coaxial machine gun of the Kannonenjagdpanzer, and therefore does not have a hull machine gun.
The Jaguar 2 is equipped with TOW anti-tank missiles, which have a maximum effective range of 3,750m, which is slightly shorter than the Jaguar 1's HOT anti-tank missiles, but they are faster and cheaper to launch, and the night sights installed on them give them significantly improved night combat capabilities compared to the Jaguar 1.
Of the 162 vehicles converted to the Jaguar 2, 136 were deployed to combat units and were retired in 1999.
