Product Description
[Special edition to commemorate the release of the movie [YUKIKAZE]]
Yukikaze was completed in January 1940 at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal as the eighth Kagero-class destroyer.
Since the outbreak of the war, it participated in many naval battles in the Western Pacific Ocean, including around the Philippines, and returned almost unscathed, earning it the nickname "Lucky Ship."
During Operation Ten-Ichi-Go at the end of the war, the ship took part in surface kamikaze attacks on Okinawa, including the battleship Yamato. While Yamato and many other ships were sunk or heavily damaged, Yukikaze and Hatsushimo were undamaged, and together with Fuyutsuki and other ships which suffered relatively minor damage, they rescued wounded soldiers.
After returning, the ship was attacked by air raids in Maizuru, but sustained only minor damage and was able to make it to the end of the war.
After the war, it served as a demobilization transport ship, transporting repatriates.
It was designated as a war reparations ship at the end of 1946, and was handed over to the Republic of China in July 1947, where it was rearmed and commissioned into the Republic of China Navy as the Danyang.
There was a movement in Japan to have it returned, but it was demolished in 1971 (Showa 46) due to its deterioration.
